About MakerFest
MakerFest is a ‘show and tell’ event within the realms of technology, innovation, creativity and design. The purpose is to strengthen the maker culture in Central and West Jutland and spark interest among young people, businesses, experts and the curious citizen. Participation is free for the public, but registration for schools/upper second education is required.
MakerFest takes place over two days in September 2025 in the forest at AU Herning and in several labs on campus. The tents and activities are represented by individuals, companies and institutions, all passionate about creating something and inspiring others. See the list of our many makers here.
The event is organised by AU Herning, VIA University College and Erhvervsakademi MidtVest.
At MakerFest 2024, visitors could, among other things:
- create 3D objects with an acrylic bender
- experience the future of agriculture
- experience the virtual world through a VR headset
- learn about 3D-printed furniture and design
- learn about artificial intelligence, IoT sensors, AR/VR, holograms, coding and game development
- make delicious non-alcoholic cocktails
- make beautiful sustainable jewellery
- programme small industrial robots
- shoot yarn with a tufting gun
- try their hand at building a speaker.
What is a maker?
The word ’maker’ is used to describe people who create. Adam Savage has worded it in an eloquent way:
Humans do two things that make us unique from all other animals; we use tools and we tell stories. And when you make something, you’re doing both at once.
