Overview
What this workshop is about

An applied introduction to how modern businesses work with Zero-Waste principles. Through short lectures and a structured group exercise, students learn how organizations reduce waste through strategic communication, innovative business models, and improved production methods.

Component 1
Introduction to Zero-Waste

A brief overview of the Zero-Waste concept, its relevance in contemporary business practice, and its implications for consumers, companies, and society.

Component 2
Three disciplinary perspectives

Marketing

How communication, customer behavior, and packaging design contribute to waste reduction.

Entrepreneurship

How waste-related challenges can be transformed into viable business opportunities.

Production

How products are manufactured, where waste typically occurs in supply chains, and how process and product design can minimize it.

Component 3
Group Exercise — Zero-Waste Solution Design

Teams develop a concept addressing a real-world waste challenge (e.g., food waste, electronic waste, textile waste). Their solution must integrate all three perspectives:

  • A marketing approach
  • A business or entrepreneurial concept
  • A low-waste production method
Teams present their concepts in short pitches at the end of the session.
